Academic Competitions

To demonstrate the high-quality education that The Weiss School provides, students participate in numerous local, regional, state, and national academic competitions. The six Centers of Excellence compose the central academic and curricular foundation that prepare Weiss School students with the knowledge and skills to be competitive in these competitions.

These Centers of Excellence provide Weiss School students with endless opportunities to develop collaboration, problem solving, and higher order thinking skills. Over the last two school years, Weiss School students have achieved tremendous successes in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Public Speaking academic competitions.

Science

The Weiss School had 27 Middle School students qualify to compete in the 2018 Palm Beach County Regional Middle School Science & Engineering Fair. Results included:

  • Nine 1st Place Winners (Top Middle School in Region)
  • Nine 2nd Place Winners
  • Six 3rd Place Winners
  • Three 4th Place Winners
  • Eight Special Recognition Awards
Nine Weiss Middle School student winners qualified for the 63rd Florida State Science & Engineering Fair STEM Competition. This was the highest number of students to qualify from one school in Palm Beach County.

Weiss School teacher & Einstein Fellow Kevin Simmons was 1 of 5 K-12 teachers throughout the United States and Canada to win the 2017 Foundation Educator Achievement Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Mr. Simmons was honored for “Exemplifying what it means to be a true ‘aerospace teacher’ through outstanding leadership and mentorship, thus inspiring students to achieve great things.”

Mathematics

The Weiss School participated in the 2017 National Perennial Math Problem Solving Tournament. Results included:

  • 1st place National Winner (3rd grade student)
  • 1st place National Winner (Math team of five 3rd grade students)
  • 2nd place National Winner (3rd grade student)
  • 4th place National Winner (3rd grade student)

Social Studies

Weiss School students participated in the 2017 Florida South Region National History Competition. Results included:

  • 10 Weiss School students were Regional Finalists and went to the National Championship
  • 1 Weiss School student was the 8th grade Regional Champion
  • The Weiss School had the most National Qualifiers in the region
Weiss School students participated in the 2017 Palm Beach County History Fair Competition. Results included:

  • 6 1st Place Winners
  • 5 2nd Place Winners
  • 3 3rd Place Winners
The Weiss School had 24 students, representing 11 projects, participate in the 2017 Florida History Day Competition. This was the largest representation by any public or private middle school in the state of Florida. Results included:

  • 1 3rd place winner in Jr. Individual Documentary
  • 1 3rd place winner in Jr. Individual Performance
  • 1 Special Award winner for Best Use of Primary Sources
  • 1 Top 10 Finish winner for Jr. Group Website
  • 1 Top 10 Finish winner for Jr. Group Performance

Language Arts & Public Speaking

Weiss School students participated in the 2016-2017 Palm Beach County Middle School Forensic League Debate Tournaments. Results included:

  • 3 1st Place “Congress Debate” Winners
  • Best Presiding Officer
  • 1 1st Place “Impromptu Debate” Winner
  • 1 2nd Place “Congress Debate” Winner
  • 1 3rd Place “Congress Debate” Winner
  • 1 3rd Place “Impromptu Debate” Winner
  • 1 3rd Place “Public Forum Team” Winner
Weiss School students participated in the 2016 National Speech & Debate Association National Tournament. Results included:

  • 1 7th grade Weiss School student was the 1st Place “Congress Debate” winner in the United States
  • 2 7th grade Weiss School students advanced to the championship finals
Weiss School students participated in the 2017 Tournament of Champions. Results included: 
  • 1 8th grade Weiss School student was the 1st Place “Congress Debate” winner in the nation

Taekwondo

The Weiss School Taekwondo Competition Team competed at the 2017 Taekwondo Winter Games in Miramar, FL on February 11, 2017. The Taekwondo Competition Team was composed of 16 Weiss School students including 7 first-time competitors. Each member competed in their respective age and belt divisions for Poomsae (Forms). Results included:

A total of 21 Medals were earned by Weiss School students.

The Weiss School is a co-ed private school that serves gifted students in PreK-3 through 8th grade in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. A Weiss School education prepares students to think analytically and creatively, act socially responsible, live vigorously, and create imaginatively in a warm and supportive educational environment.
