Where Bright Minds Take Root: Rooted in Gratitude

Dear Weiss School Families,

We hope you and your child(ren) have had a wonderful start to the school year. As we begin another year of learning, discovery, and growth, we are reminded of what makes The Weiss School so special: this is a place Where Bright Minds Take Root. At The Weiss School, we believe strong roots create the foundation for lifelong growth. Every day, our students are encouraged to ask questions, think deeply, explore new ideas, build confidence, and discover their individual strengths.  Last year, thanks to the generosity of our families and supporters, The Weiss School Annual Fund raised $246,009 for the 2025–2026 school year. These contributions played an important role in helping offset operating costs while sustaining the exceptional educational experience our students enjoy each day. This year, our Annual Fund goal is $275,000, and we are confident that, rooted together, our community can achieve this strong goal!

Like most private and independent schools, tuition alone does not fully cover the cost of a Weiss School education. Based on our August financials, tuition currently funds approximately 83% of our annual operating budget. The Annual Fund helps bridge that gap, allowing us to remain committed to keeping tuition as reasonable as possible while continuing to provide outstanding academics, enriched learning opportunities, individualized attention, and the nurturing environment that allows every student to grow and thrive.

From Our Roots to Our Roof
This year, your Annual Fund gift will directly support the people, programs, resources, and spaces that provide the strong foundation our students need to flourish. The 2026 Annual Fund contributions will help us:
  • Nurture the spaces where bright minds grow by refreshing and improving classrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces from early childhood through ninth grade
  • Cultivate curiosity and innovation through updated technology, science lab equipment (Bio Level 2 Lab), robotics resources, and hands-on learning tools
  • Support the health and well-being of our students through employing our full-time school nurse
  • Plant seeds for future opportunities by investing in new programs, resources, and experiences as education continues to evolve
  • Strengthen our school from the roots to the roof by replacing our roof ($838,900) after many years of costly temporary repairs
Every gift helps provide the foundation our students need to learn, explore, create, and grow. We recognize that every family’s giving capacity is different, and every contribution, no matter the amount, is meaningful and deeply appreciated. This year, we respectfully ask each family to consider a contribution of $1,500 per student. We are especially grateful to those families, grandparents, alumni, and friends who can give beyond this level and choose to make The Weiss School a priority in their philanthropy.

Our theme this year, Where Bright Minds Take Root, is more than a phrase. It reflects what happens every day at The Weiss School. Our students are building the roots of knowledge, character, confidence, curiosity, and compassion that will support them throughout their lives. And just as strong roots allow a tree to grow, every gift to the Annual Fund helps strengthen the foundation that allows our students to reach their highest goals. We are rooted in gratitude for the trust you place in us, for the joy and energy your children bring to our campus, and for our shared commitment to helping every student reach their fullest potential.

If you would like to join us in supporting our Annual Fund, we kindly ask that pledges or contributions be made by Friday, October 30, 2026. As a special recognition of your support, participating family names will be displayed on our Annual Fund Giving Tree in the front office—a visual reminder of the many families whose generosity helps our Weiss community continue to grow. The Weiss School is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.

  • Q. Why an Annual Fund?

    As is typical for most independent schools, The Weiss School relies on its Annual Fund as an important component of its operating budget. Tuition covers approximately 83% of the annual operating budget. The remaining 17% is comprised of Annual Fund gifts, fundraising activities, corporate gifts, and other non-tuition income received from outside sources.

  • Q. Why does the school fundraise?

    The Weiss School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Unlike public and charter schools, The Weiss School receives no local, state, or federal government funding. Tuition alone does not cover everything we have come to expect in our exemplary gifted educational program. The Board of Trustees approves a budget that relies on philanthropic support as one way to keep tuition as affordable as possible. Furthermore, philanthropic contributions provide an opportunity for donors to receive tax benefits while also supporting The Weiss School.

  • Q. How are Annual Fund dollars used?

    To continue offering the high-quality education and safe, supportive environment our families value, we rely on contributions to the Annual Fund. Your donation this year will directly support priorities such as:
    • Maintaining on-site health and wellness through employing our full-time nurse
    • Updating and renovating our student bathrooms and campus facilities
    • Enhancing and maintaining student technology and infrastructure for maximum efficiency

  • Q. What is the goal of the Annual Fund?

    We ask all families to consider The Weiss School a philanthropic priority and the Annual Fund is the first and most important fundraising initiative each year. The goal of the Annual Fund is to raise $1,500 per student.

  • Q. What is the appropriate amount to give?

    We realize that all family circumstances are unique. Families are asked to give to the best of their ability and we understand that means different things at different times. Some families are able to give a substantial amount while others are only able to give more modestly. What matters most is the act of giving and that every family contributes what they can to support The Weiss School. Our history has shown that when everyone gives as generously as possible, we are able to ensure that The Weiss School programs remain excellent for gifted students.

  • Q. Are families receiving tuition assistance expected to participate?

    Yes. Gifts commensurate with each family's financial means are welcome and honored.

  • Q. Are gifts tax-deductible?

    Yes. The Weiss School is a nonprofit organization so all gifts and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS. Donors are always advised to seek guidance from their tax preparer to determine tax deductibility questions. The Weiss School Development Office provides donation acknowledgements for tax purposes for all gifts regardless of the amount of the donation.

  • Q. Can we make a pledge?

    Absolutely. Some families choose to make a one-time gift while other families make a pledge to make a contribution in the future. If you do indicate you are making a pledge, please fulfill your pledge commitment by April.
