The Weiss School will resume in-person classes Friday, October 30, 2020

Clearance for any student who misses school or is sent home due to sickness: Prior to returning to campus, students who have exhibited the symptoms listed below, or have been exposed to COVID-19 must be symptom-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing or pain-relief medication, and either 1) present a rapid antibody test* or nasal swab test administered five or more days after exposure and within five days of returning to school; or 2) be cleared by Dr. Lori Dowie*, Elite Coastal Healthcare. Note that Dr. Dowie will consider documented input, including recent test results, from other medical professionals.
 
The above requirement applies to any student, staff member, or volunteer who 1) has a household member test positive for COVID-19 or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms; 2) has interacted 15 or more minutes within 6’ with or without mask or plexiglass barrier, with a person who has exhibited COVID -19 symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 within two days of the interaction; or 3) has exhibited any of these symptoms: 
  • Fever of 100.4 degrees or chills
  • Persistent cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Uncharacteristic fatigue
  • Muscle or body ache
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
 
Initial clearance for students who have not previously attended classes on campus since September 15, 2020: Students must present a negative result from a rapid antibody test or nasal swab test administered no more than five days before attending classes on campus. 
  • Though parents are welcome to arrange for tests through any Health Department-approved source, Weiss parent Dr. Lori Dowie, Elite Coastal Healthcare, has volunteered to test Weiss students and household members. Interested parents will be billed $20 for students and $30 for other household members by Weiss to cover the cost of the test(s). If interested, please call Ms. Tripp, (561) 743-7166, at the Weiss School to schedule an appointment for testing. The rapid test involves a finger prick, takes 5 minutes to administer, and results are available within 30 minutes.
  • Parents of students who test positive for COVID-19 antibodies must consult Dr. Lori Dowie, Elite Coastal Healthcare, for additional clearance requirements prior to returning to campus.
