Thanksgiving Feast & Launch Day Party at The Weiss School

Brittany Theimer
This year, we are not only thankful for the many blessings we enjoy at Weiss, but we are also grateful that our very own Weiss satellite will finally launch!  CubeSats are miniature versions of regular satellites designed to perform research, test new hardware and systems, and collect imagery. The WeissSat-1 will carry extremophile bacteria to investigate how life might exist and thrive in space. The WeissSat-1 mission began three years ago with just a small group of aerospace students who wanted to "go to space." Now numerous middle schoolers meet each week as part of the Weiss CubeSat Development Team. The WeissSat-1 will launch November 19th aboard a Falcon-9 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The Weiss School will be the first middle school to ever launch a CubeSat into space. To honor the big day,  we will host a Launch Party for all grades which will host a variety of engaging science-related activities including a rocket launch and the release of our WeissSat-1 coloring book. Please have your child arrive promptly on Friday, November 16th as festivities begin at 8:30 a.m.
