Academic Taekwondo
We're on a Quest to Be Our Best!
All K-8th students participate in Taekwondo. This Korean martial art is ideal for young children, giving them the freedom to advance at their own pace.
The program helps children develop physical strength, self-control, flexibility, coordination, and self-defense skills.
Additionally, the program helps students develop a strong sense of self-discipline, self-esteem, responsibility, as well as, values and standards of excellence.
The Weiss School was the first school in the United States to include taekwondo in the daily curriculum
at elementary, primary, and middle school levels. It is now the only accredited academic taekwondo program in the country!
Our fully matted, spacious 1500 square foot Do-Jang (training hall) has full length mirrors and two changing rooms.
Since the program's inception, in 1990, the Weiss School Taekwondo program can count to its merit with fifty Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo certified Black Belts, fourty U.S. National and International titles, and well over 200 Florida State medals. Several times throughout the year, students perform throughout the community and within the school.
Eighty percent of the students in grades two through eight are members of the four school bands.
The two choruses are open to all students in the school.
Students also have the opportunity to perform in two musical productions each year.
The arts and music are integrated with the academic program, adding a new dimension to the sciences and humanities.
Through music, Weiss students gain an appreciation for the performing arts and become dedicated and cultured young citizens.
Students are well prepared for vocal and instrumental auditions into The Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Jr. School of the Arts.
